Turmeric, or the “golden spice”, is one of the most beneficial and versatile spices known to man, with a distinctive, deep yellow color, mouth-watering aroma, and impressive medicinal properties.
This fascinating spice has been commonly used in different cultures for centuries and is the main ingredient in curry and various Asian dishes.
Turmeric is available in the form of powder, tea, capsules, and extract.

- Turmeric Kefir
- 1 cup of fresh Turmeric or ⅓ cup dried whole root
- 1 cup of fresh Ginger
- ½ cup Water Kefir Grains
- 1 cup organic sugar or rapadura
- 1 gallon Filtered or Spring Water
Peel the turmeric and ginger, and chop them. Boil the water, add them to it, and cover the pot. Cook for an hour, and then leave the mixture to cool. Transfer it to a large one- gallon glass jar, add the sweetener and the water kefir grains, and stir. Cover, and leave the jar to sit for 3-5 days. Store it in the fridge and consume it on a daily basis.
- Turmeric Tea
- ½ teaspoon fresh grated turmeric
- dash of black pepper
- a squeeze of lime
- 1 cup hot water
- raw honey (to taste)
Add the turmeric to the boiled water, simmer for 5 minutes, and then remove the pot from heat. Strain, add the black pepper, like juice, and honey, and drink it after 10 minutes.
- Golden Milk
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder/fresh grated
- ¼ teaspoon ginger powder/fresh grated
- ¼ teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup coconut or almond milk
- dash of clove
- ¼ cup water
- dash of cardamom
- dash of cinnamon
- 2 teaspoons raw honey
Mix all the ingredients and let the mixture to simmer for a minute. Then, pour in a glass, and drink it.
- Turmeric Juice
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder or ½ inch turmeric root
- sea salt
- the juice of ½ lemon
Pour the lemon juice into a glass, add the salt and turmeric, and drink it right away.
- Turmeric Scramble
Just add some turmeric to your egg scramble, and enjoy the healthy breakfast.
- Turmeric Soup
- 1 knuckle chopped/grated turmeric
- 4 cups veggie or organic bone broth
- Boiled water
Add the turmeric and broth to the water, simmer for 15 minutes, and strain. Enjoy!
- Turmeric Smoothie
- 1 ½ cups frozen pineapple or mango
- ½ coconut or almond milk
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder/fresh turmeric
- 2 tablespoon coconut flakes
- 1 teaspoon maca root
- dash of black pepper
- 1 teaspoon hemp seed hearts
Blend the ingredients together, and enjoy this refreshing smoothie.
- Turmeric Plantain Chips
- ½ pound peeled green plantains
- — ½ teaspoon ground turmeric
- ¼ teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 tablespoon melted sustainable red palm oil
- ½ teaspoon Himalayan rock salt or another kind of sea salt
- ¼ teaspoon ground coriander
Peel the plantains, cut off their tops, and place them sliced in a large bowl. Toss with melted palm oil until all slices are covered evenly. Mix the spices in another bowl, and then pour them over the plantain. Next, spread the coated plantain slices onto the previously prepared baking sheet, and then bake them for 15 minutes before rotating to the other side and baking for another 10 minutes.
When done, leave them to cool, and enjoy!
Turmeric tortilla chips
- 1 cup coconut milk, full-fat
- ¼ teaspoon turmeric
- ½ cup tapioca flour
- ½ cup almond flour
- ½ teaspoon salt, adjust to taste
You should pre-heat a 9.5 inch (or larger) nonstick pan over medium heat. Then, in a larger bowl, mix the coconut milk, turmeric, almond flour, tapioca flour, and salt.
Next, add ¼ cup worth of batter onto the pan, and cook it for a minute. Then, flip the flatbread, cook for another minute, and then place the bread onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Repeat until the batter is cooked, and then cut it using scissors in the form of tortillas. Spread them on the baking sheet, and bake at 400°F for 10-12 minutes.
